STAR Program
(School-Age Time and Recreation)
The Fraser STAR Program supports families with school-age children by providing before and after-school and non-school-day child care.
Services Provided
Service options include enrichment programming for Fraser Academy students through:
- Before-school child care (7 to 9 a.m.)
- Noon-hour child care (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
- After-school child care (3:30 to 6 p.m.)
- Full-day programming on most non-school days (7 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- Half-day child care enrichment — through collaboration with Fraser Academy, the kindergarten curriculum is expanded into enrichment programs with non-academic lessons (9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
- Flexible use for occasional child care (available with advanced notice if space permits.)
Program Highlights
- Follows the Fraser School model of inclusive child care emphasizing play-based curriculum, music, sensory and large muscle activities.
- Operated in collaboration with Fraser Academy to encourage consistency between services and curriculum.
- Open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on most non-school days.
- Flexible enrollment options – Parents may enroll children in the combination of programs that best meets their needs, for one to five days a week.
- Individualized Programming – in collaboration with Fraser Academy, the STAR Program strives to meet the individual needs of each child served. Parents may also use PCA or waivered services to support their child’s participation.
- Children may use the regularly scheduled busing for Fraser Academy. (Transportation to the before and after-school programs and full-day programming is provided by parents.)

Our Staff
STAR staff include a coordinator, teachers and assistant teachers. Individual child Personal Care Assistants (PCAs) and other support staff may also be involved.

Payment/Funding
Parents pay the designated fees. The program has county contracts for subsidized child care as approved for each family.
