Exceptional Children with Communication and Interaction Disorders Program
Fraser Visual Strategies services assist families in designing visual supports and environments that promote effective self-management systems, enhanced communication and meaningful social relationships.
These services are through the Fraser Autism Program which provides evaluation and treatment services for children with autism spectrum disorders. The long-range goal of this program is to maximize each child's developmental potential while improving functioning in a variety of environments.
Program Highlights:- Many individuals with autism spectrum disorders process what they see more efficiently than what they hear. Consultation components include assessment and recommendations regarding the use of visual tools to support adaptive functioning.
- Individualized programs and tools promote the use of visuals across environments (home, school, peer group).
- Visual consultations can be done individually with the child or family, with the child and family together, or with school, agency and residential support staff.
- minimize inappropriate and problematic behaviors;
- reduce frustration and anxiety;
- improve communication and understanding;
- nurture independence and self-reliance;
- maximize success in learning, and
- assist in transitions and community involvement.
Our Staff
Our psychoeducational consultant has certification in the area of autism spectrum disorder and many years of experience working with children. The psychoeducational consultant is under the supervision of a mental health professional.
