Fraser Celebrates Autism Awareness Month
Fraser has partnered with Governor Tim Pawlenty to proclaim April as Autism Awareness Month in the State of Minnesota. The state proclamation coincides with a national effort to gain visibility for our country's fastest growing developmental disability. Autism spectrum disorders now affect 1 in 150 children. Autism is more common than juvenile diabetes, childhood cancer and AIDS combined. It is our hope that increased awareness will lead to early diagnosis and treatment for more children. Program in the Spotlight Communication Tools for Children with Autism
Fraser is participating in beta testing new communication tools designed to assist children with autism. Developed by Ablenet, the Lingo Wearable Messaging and Communication Aid was created to assist both students who are verbal and students who are nonverbal. Fraser staff will be utilizing the communication aid in their intervention sessions for several weeks to see if this assistive technology helps promote skill development.
