Fraser Walk for Autism

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is raising money for autism important?
Autism, the fastest-growing developmental disability in the U.S., is more common than juvenile diabetes, childhood cancer and AIDS combined. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 110 children in the United States have autism. The Fraser Walk for Autism raises funds to provide direct-care and support services to more Minnesota families. All of the funds raised stay in our local community.

Where does the money raised through this event go?
All funds raised through the Fraser Walk for Autism will help local Minnesota families through services provided by Fraser.

What services will this event support?
As the longest-running, largest provider of autism services in Minnesota, the funds raised will help Fraser to ensure the stability of current programs and to expand services. All Fraser programs will benefit from the proceeds of this event.

What autism services does Fraser provide?
Fraser serves individuals with autism in all programs. Our autism programs include:

  • early childhood education
  • occupational, physical, speech, music and feeding therapies
  • parent education, training and support
  • day treatment
  • respite care
  • diagnostic evaluations and referrals
  • PCA services
  • residential services
  • skills training
  • and more!

Can I register at the event?
Day-of registration will take place in Sears Court of Mall of America (east entrance, level 1).

Will the walk be rescheduled in the event of bad weather?
Since the Fraser Walk for Autism takes place indoors at Mall of America®, it will be held rain or shine.

How will I find other members of my walk team the morning of the event?
Event organizers will assign all walk teams a storefront as a meeting place for participants to gather before the walk begins. Check your team storefront assignments; this information will be e-mailed to the team captain upon receipt of your registration.

Is there a coat check at the mall?
Mall of America® does not have a place to store coats, boots, purses, etc. Participants should either leave these items at home, in the car, or rent a locker at the mall (inside east entrance, level one, $0.25 per entry).

Can my child ride his scooter/bike during the walk?
Mall of America® does not allow bicycles, rollerblades or scooters. Wagons, strollers, walkers, wheelchairs, etc. are welcome and encouraged!

How many laps around the mall am I expected to complete?
Each participant can determine the distance walked and whether they want to collect pledges per lap completed or overall participation in the event (not based on distance walked). For example, you may want to ask for pledges per lap ($5/lap, $10/lap, etc.) or you may want to ask for pledges based on your participation in the event (rather than the number of laps completed.)

Are donations to Fraser tax deductible?
Yes, donations to Fraser are tax deductible. Online donors receive a gift acknowledgement at the time of their donation. Others will receive a gift acknowledgement once their donation is processed.
