Visual Consultation
Visual Consultation
Fraser Visual Consultation services assist families in designing visual supports and environments that promote effective self-management systems, enhanced communication and meaningful social relationships. These consultations are for pre-school aged children through young adults on the autism spectrum.
Many individuals with autism spectrum disorders process what they see more efficiently than what they hear. The Visual Consultation includes an assessment and recommendations regarding the use of visual tools to support adaptive functioning. Individualized programs and tools promote the use of visuals at home and at school. Consultations can be done individually with the child, with the child and family together, or with school, agency or residential support staff. Fraser also offers periodic
classes
on the use of visual tools.
The visual consultant has certification in the area of autism spectrum disorders, has many years of experience working with children, and works under the supervision of a Fraser mental health professional.
Individual and family consultations may be used to:
minimize inappropriate and problematic behaviors;
reduce frustration and anxiety;
improve communication and understanding;
nurture independence and self-reliance;
maximize success in learning; and
assist in transitions and community involvement.
